Malick Sidibé

This exhibition of photographs documents Mali's night-club and party scene of the 1970s when the disco rage of the West was being imported and re-invented. Colourful and vibrant, these images render John Travolta and his world of white suits obsolete. Having only recently received any notice in the West, Malick Sidebé has long had celebrity status in his native country where until 1976 he ran a portrait studio in the capital Bamako.
